Post Modernism

Postmodernism in film is describe as an aspect which obstructs not only narrative structure but the mainstream conventions of film. The term 'postmodern' applies to the ways in which new texts are constructed by making reference to or 'borrowing' idea from already existing films or texts.

An example of a postmodern film would be Thomas Twykers 'Run Lola, Run', which we watched in class. Its backwards narrative and all too obvious edits earn its status as a postmodern film. Another example of postmodern film would be Baz Luhrmann's 'Moulin Rouge' or 'Romeo + Juliet'. A scene at a petrol station in the beginning of 'Romeo + Juliet' reflects a contemporary gangster film, it also makes references to a John Woo martial arts film.

  1. Be clearer about what you mean in your first sentence Shiana. A bit more detail about how this extract is intertextual in this clip is needed. Also, proofread your writing carefully please.
